About

Making Art in a Warming World: Australian Artists and Climate Change is an innovative teaching resource designed to support the development of new Visual Arts programs. This interdisciplinary resource includes six dynamic modules that engage students with the work of Australian artists responding to the complexity of climate change through their artistic practice. The modules can be adapted for Stage 4, 5 and Stage 6 students, making them a versatile tool for educators across all secondary levels.

A TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCE

The resource aligns with the Visual Arts Years 7-10 Syllabus (2024) Outcomes, ensuring that each module deepens student understanding of climate issues and supports the achievement of key curriculum goals in contemporary art education. By connecting the scientific reality of climate change with creative expression, the resource encourages both teachers and students to recognise that climate change is an integral part of contemporary culture and discourse.

Each module follows a structured format:

  1. Foundational resources that introduce climate change topics and key Australian artists

  2. Learning activities designed to engage students in critical thinking, social equity, and justice within the context of climate action

  3. Art-making activities that challenge students to create artworks reflecting the themes of climate change, justice, and sustainability.
